1936 MG NA MAGNETTE SPORTS 'MG Works Team Cream Cracker Livery’
Chassis No. NA 0678; Engine No. 931A 134N
  • Notes:
Chassis No. NA 0678; Engine No. 931A 134N Small-capacity six-cylinder cars were much in vogue in the early 1930s and MG had capitalised on this with the introduction of the 'NA' Magnette in 1934. 'It is not surprising that with the makers' knowledge of racing... it should be capable of giving as high a speed as 80mph. What comes as a revelation is the ease with which on Brooklands that speed is reached and held. The rev needle hovering between the 5,000 and 5,500 marks, the whole mechanism feeling as one, and with no sense of adventure attached to such speeds.' – 'The Autocar' on the N-type Magnette.  This 1271cc six-cylinder four-speed NA Magnette was produced in 1936 and was first registered as ‘226037’ in Victoria Australia on 23rd September 1937 as per the original Owner’s Certificate of Motor Car document (black livery).  The recorded owners and circa periods are outlined below; 1937 Mr Lester N. Ingram 1953 Mr. Brian D. Nixon 1956 Mr. Gary White 1957 Mr. Ronald Ruffley 1969 Mr. J.L Buchanan 2015 Purchased by current owner Accompanying the sale is a fantastic selection of continuous period paperwork, correspondence and invoices including from Nuffield Exports Limited.  This also includes a crankshaft purchase by Ronald Ruffley in 1958 from Toulin Motors UK.  It’s understood Mr. Buchanan restored the body in the late 60s / early 70s and modified the rear tail to the elegant lines we see today.  Buchanan also painted it in contrasting brown livery, being inspired by the successful trio of PBs which formed the 1936 ‘Cream Cracker’ MG Works Team.  Since 2015 a considerable amount of mechanical works and maintenance has been undertaken by pre-war MG specialist Ray Skewes Automotive. This is a rare opportunity to purchase documented car, with original engine, and one of a mere 690 NA/NB Magnettes produced.
