  In the post-oil crisis years in Europe, the 1974 announcement of a 260bhp turbo charged sporting car was a bold and courageous statement of defiance. This development was nevertheless greeted favourably by both the industry and Porsche cognoscenti. Over the ensuing years, Porsche continued to push the envelope by developing power increases from the initial 260 bhp to 300 and then 320 and by 1993, 360bhp. By the spring of 1995, the 993-based 911 Turbo model was presented at the Geneva Autosalon. With 408 bhp it was the most powerful production car produced by Porsche up to that date. Despite this achievement, turbo lag had been tamed somewhat, minimising the sheer visceral power delivery of prior models. The stylish Porsche interior remained ever popular and matched the luxury of this top-of-the-range model. A comment from Walter Rohrl perhaps best sums up this car: “The character of the new Porsche 911 Turbo is largely defined by the driving experience”. And what an experience it is! This Porsche on offer at auction with Mossgreen-Webb’s is the first 993 Turbo sold new in New Zealand and which has been held in only 2 ownerships for 22 years. Finished in the classic Arena Red, the vehicle comes with a full-service history from Official Porsche Centres, Giltraps (Auckland), Team European (Wellington) and Archibalds (Christchurch), as well as a renowned independent Wellington workshop Powerhaus. Work undertaken by the former includes the installation of a Factory 430 bhp enhancement kit and the replacement of the wiring loom (Factory recall) in 2004. Power output thus matches a GT2 of this era. Mileage is a mere 53,000 kilometres.
