Notes:The last of a traditional, prestigious line of British motor cars, the Rover 110 gained as much approval from Motoring writers in 1963 as its previous P4 model. The Motor regarded the 110 as a faster version of a formal car with a top speed of 100mph...and in further commentary...satisfying to the pernickety requirements of the sedate connoisseur and to the more exacting requirements of the man who habitually drives fast and has a keen appreciation of handling qualities. Announced on the 27th of September 1962, these cars represented the end of an era. Fundamentally, the Rover 110 was a Rover 100 with a more powerful engine albeit both being 2.6-litres. The availability of higher octane fuels brought an increase in the compression ratio to 8.8:1 and the 2.6 litre engine now produced 123 hp in the 110. All steel door panels were fitted to reduce cost replacing the alloy panels of previous models but additional equipment included electric windscreen washers. Overdrive became standard on the 110. Marking the end of an era, this fine Rover 110 completes the Savage Collection's carefully chosen examples of P4 models. It signifies the determination of Rover in the post-war era to outdo its rivals in matters of quality and refinement with conservatism rather than larrikinism being its approach to driving rewards. Regular attention and maintenance has always been carried out on this essential member of the Savage Collection. Further provenance was being sought after at time of publication.
