    1961 ROVER 100 SALOON
Chassis no: 651100200; Engine no: 650101860
  • Notes:
Affectionately known as the "Auntie" Rovers, these prestige motor cars were revered by the gentry and royalty including Grace Kelly. The Rover 90 and 105 within the range of P4s, were predecessors to the new, more powerful Rover 100 which was announced on 24th October, 1959. It sported an upgraded 2.6-litre IOE straight-6 engine being a short-stroke version with a single SU carburettor and continued the evolution towards the P5 3-litre yet to come. Luxurious, elegant, silent and refined with timber dash and leather, the Rover 100 highlighted styling features that were renowned for this marque and offered an optional bench or twin front seats for the buyer's choice. This model also featured the Shepherds Crook shaped brake lever with a heater as a standard fitting. The 100 was equipped with servo-assisted Girling disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Overdrive, on top gear only, was a standard fitting. Retaining the aluminium body, in 1962 it was superseded by the Rover 110 after approximately 16,521 had been produced. This gentrified example painted in its factory maroon and black livery features its original interior of cream leather upholstery with matching carpets. The timber dash, Jaeger and Smiths instruments and heater are all in good order with the optional bench seat being to original order. The signature suicide doors, the last of an era of P4s and the convex mirror on the driver's side A pillar both identify this as a period classic. Regular attention and careful maintenance has always been carried on this essential member of the Savage Collection. This example was first registered in 1961 and purchased by Roy Savage in 2004. It shows a current odometer reading of 77,750 miles approximately. Further provenance was being sought at the time of publication. This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF
