  • Notes:
A complete set in first editions – unusually – of the official accounts of Cook’s three voyages around the world, the cornerstone of any collection of modern voyages. “Captain Cook’s three great voyages form the basis of any collection of Pacific books. In these three voyages Cook did more to clarify the geographical knowledge of the southern hemisphere than all his predecessors together had done. He was the first really scientific navigator, and his voyages made great contributions to many fields of knowledge…” (Hill). Beddie, 648, 1216, 1543; Davidson, pp. 49 – 53; Forbes, 62 (“arguably the single most important book on the Hawaiian Islands”); Hill 2, 782, 358, and 361; Holmes, 5, 24, and 47; Renard, 369; Rosove, 77.A1; Sabin, 30934, 16245, and 16250.
