Lot Description:A Fine Late 19th Century Australian Silver Equestrian Trophy, Later Inscribed For the Corowa Cup, 1952
ATTRIBUTED TO EDWARD FISCHER, GEELONG, CIRCA 1880 Bearing the inscription 'Corowa Cup / 1952 / won by / N.C Bott's - Atomic Light / 2nd - Kendee / 3rd - Tarrawingee,' engraved verso with a vignette showing horses racing, the tapering cylindrical body with applied strap work and bright-cut foliate borders, rising to angular foliate engraved scroll handles and stepped cover with a finial cast as a horse rider and his mount, raised on a circular foot, hallmarked sterling silver to cover and the outer rim of the foot; together with a turned hardwood plinth, 1454 grs. total weight of silver, the cup and cover 54.5cm high, the plinth 10cm high. -
