  Pair, plus 3 masonic jewels, to Captain John Edward Barltrop, Manchester Rifle Vols.
  (i) Volunteer Long Service Medal, Victoria (Capt John Edward Barltrop, Manchester Rifle Vols (1903). 120 medals issued. (ii) New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal (Lieut John E Barltrop, Manchester Rifle Vols 1896). Granted 17 August 1896. Stagg records medal is 3rd type of which 471 medals issued. (iii) Masonic Lodge jewel or badge, 9ct gold, Awatea Lodge No. 258 (Brother J E Barltrop, 1931). (iv) Masonic Lodge jewel or badge, Rongotea Lodge No 146 (Worshipful Brother J E Barltrop, organist, 17.7.1929). (v) Fob-watch fine woven silver chain with gold medal (cross) attached; obverse engraved with portrait of Druid and reverse engraved: UAOD 2 Arch Druid Barltrop, Token of esteem from Maitai Lodge No 301. With research notes.

  Purchased from recipient's son Max Barltrop, also a Feilding solicitor, 1980.
• Notes:
  John Edward Barltrop was born in Nelson and attended Nelson College 1881-82; practised as a solicitor in Feilding for many years until his death at Palmerston North on 11 June 1953. He joined the volunteers in Nelson and transferred to the Manchester Rifle Volunteers after his move to Feilding and attained the rank of Major. He served on Fielding Borough Council. He was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration, NZ Gazette, page 2137, 13 August 1908 (not with group). He was active for many years in local Masonic Lodges.
