COAL BOX SHOW BUGGY, NSW ORIGIN, 1890s
This handsome Show buggy uses Concord side springs and a long tray with a raised, panelled seat for two. The coachwork is completely original, as is some of the buttoned trim, and the buggy was expertly restored to show condition about twenty years ago, the seat, apron, tonneau cover and patent leather dashboard being renewed at that time. Finished in maroon livery with black panels, and multicoloured fine lining of exceptional quality, the Sarven hub wheels have new channel and rubber in excellent order, and chrome plated brass hub caps, and there is a matching chrome plated dash rail. The buggy is fitted with a brake operated with a hand/foot lever from the drivers seat. The front axle has quick-release couplings for the matching pole. Unusual nickel plated kerosene lamps with original bases to allow use with the carriages lamp irons are fitted. The wheels are in superb order and were renewed during the restoration. New leather axle washers were fitted recently, leaving this handsome vehicle ready to drive.
