"Desiree"
Glazed Earthenware on Jarrah Base 1/6
H33cm, W16cm, & D19cm
Certificate of authenticity supplied by Michelle Murch. -
Notes:Arthur Murch modelled the head of Desiree Quigg in the 1920s after studying sculpture under Rayner Hoff at East Sydney Technical College. The original bronze cast was made at Harry West's Foundry in Newtown, NSW circa 1930. This cast was not successful and has the back of the head missing. In the 1990s with the help of sculptors and expert foundry casters, including Dan Lake, Ria Murch (widow of Arthur Murch) had a new bronze cast. In 2018, from the mould made in the 1990s, Michelle Murch (Arthur's daughter) had a new series of glazed slip-cast earthenware heads produced. There are 6 in this series. See: 'Arthur Murch - An Artist's Life 1902-1989,' Ria Murch, published by Ruskin Rowe Press, 1997, p. 27. Michelle Murch
