Description:DONINGTON AUCTIONS' INTRODUCTION:
The name Bugatti congers up visions of automotive rolling art with an amazing grand prix and competition history. Few marques have the history of Bugatti, from racing automobiles to a litany of subliminal road cars, Bugatti remains to this day, a marque above many.
With this pedigree in mind, Donington Auctions is proud to present an auction that comprises purely Bugatti related items, that were also once part of the Peter McGann collection. Alongside Bob King, Peter McGann is a leading light in the international world of Bugatti. Peter McGann and Bob King have authored many books regarding Bugatti, with many of their publications up for auction.
A highlight of the auction is the trophy cup awarded to the famous Grand Prix driver Elisabeth Junek for the 1926 Zbraslav-Jíloviště Hill Climb. Elisabeth Junek (Eliška Junková b.1900-d.1994) won the 1926 Zbraslav-Jiloviště 5.6km Hill Climb in a Bugatti Type 35 in the record time of 3m 15s at an average speed of 103.2 km/h. She was understood to be driving a Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix when winning this event on 9th May 1926, likely being chassis #4329. The trophy was then gifted to Ettore Bugatti for his support and displayed in the trophy hall of the Bugatti Factory Molsheim.
Of particular note is a rare Bugatti Brescia Type 23 radiator being held in the same family since circa late 1960s. An unusual piece, the radiator would make an excellent decorative piece that could be displayed in a myriad of locations. The auction also consists of artwork by Peter McGann, model cars, official Bugatti EB110 literature, signs and other associated items.
All in all, an interesting array of items from the house of Bugatti. Ettore Bugatti would be impressed.
