  • Description:
A NOTE FROM THEODORE BRUCE ABOUT THE KUMAR COLLECTION:

Charmaine & Shanti Kumar migrated to Australia in 1974. They brought with them a 20Ft container of Antiques which came from their ancestral homes. The antique furniture was antique Dutch/Sri Lankan made of Jak & ebony wood. Shanti had regional jobs in the ‘90s & picked up antiques in his travels in India, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Cambodia etc…They moved to Hong Kong in ‘94 with a regional job & continued picking up interesting artifacts. Charmaine bought some genuine Chinese Antiques in Macao (Including the Antique Chinese Emperors Chair), brought over from China.

On one of their trips to India they purchased from Natesans Antiqarts, Bangalore (the leading Indian Antique dealer), two special pieces. A 4ft 9ins, bronze statue of the Hindu goddess Parvati, the other is Poothana, the demon, a fragment of a wooden chariot from Tanjore in Tamil Nadu, from the 18th century (authenticated by a document from Natesans). The collection of Buddha Heads was picked up from most countries in South Asia. There are none sourced from any temples. The unique Marble Buddha Head was purchased from an antique dealer in Goa, India in 1996. The antique statues of the three Chinese wooden Gods were purchased in Hangzhou, China. The collection of Antique Chinese Tiffin Carriers was purchased from a Chinese family from Taipei. Their parents brought it from China when they escaped from Mao's 8th army in the 1940s. The Rare Antique Indian Claw footed Bridal Coffer with Bone & Gilt Inlay, 19th Century was purchased in Rajasthan, India in the early ‘90s. The collection of knives & horses was collected in different cities in the Middle East & Asia.

Based in Hong Kong, Taipei, KL, Bangkok & Phnom Penh gave them the opportunity to pick up some interesting objects. They are planning to downsize, and they are reluctantly selling some of their antique collection.
