Lot Description:A sterling silver flatware service (incomplete), Albany pattern
hallmarked Sheffield 1901 by John Round and comprising one soup, two basting spoons, eleven tablespoons, 11 dessert spoons, twelve table forks and 11 dessert forks. The knives, with original ivory handles comprise of twelve table, nine bread & butter, 1 carving, steel, and two carving forks. All contained in the original box with family monogram and various labels; the knife box is missing. Approx. 3,400 grams. -
Provenance:From a notable Western Australian colonial family, the Browns of York, W.A. The set was purchased by Maitland Brown [1843-1905], explorer, pastoralist and politician and uncle of Edith Cowan, first woman in parliament. The set was left to his daughter, Constance Mary Brown, who donated it (less the misplaced pieces) to The National Trust, from whom it was purchased by the present vendor approx. 15 years ago. It may be of further interest to know that Andrew Forrest is a direct descendant.
