    1948 VELOCETTE LE 149cc MOTORCYCLE
The Velocette LE (little engine) was intended to be the "motorcycle for everyman" and was launched at the British International Motor Show in 1948. Spurred on by the company's director Eugene Goodman, designer Charles Udall looked to create a motorcycle that would address many of the of the issues often associated with 2 wheeled transport. The LE featured a radical pressed steel frame design, hand operated gearchange, coil ignition, hand crank and a great effort was spent on on strategic placement of rubber to damp vibrations and soundproofing, creating one of the quietest bikes ever produced. The bike was powered by a 149cc water-cooled flat twin with shaft drive. A glove box and detachable panniers made the bike practical as well, but the unusual looks, high price and the relative strength of the new scooter market meant sales failed to live up to expectations. The LE did however find success with law enforcement forces where it gained the nickname 'Noddy Bike' as a result. This bike presents in barn find condition and would make a great display piece.
