  Michael Bell 'As You like It' screen print posters
  colour screen print poster second printing 1983, signed in the image lower right, promoting a Nimrod Theatre Company production of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It. The lettering is in broad block capitals with a central landscape image (incorporating gum trees and waratah flowers) against a light blue background. The production, directed by John Bell and Anna Volska, with Anna Volska as Rosalind, ran from 21 July 1983 to 18 September 1983.

Michael Bell recalls that the production was loosely set in Sydney in the 1930s, and substituted the Blue Mountains for the Forests of Arden. “I tried to invoke an Art Deco / Margaret Preston look and style to the poster.” He hand screen printed the posters in 6 colours in what he recalls as an initial run of 150. “The posters proved popular - and they ended up selling them at the theatre - and then began taking orders. They were selling at $30.00 each. I did a second run of another 200 which drove me crazy.” —Email from Michael Bell, 12 October 2017.
