    A Pair of Mortlock Island Masks, Early Twentieth Century
    Masks are rare in Micronesia. These masks were worn in ceremonies and hung in the ceremonial house as decoration. They are made from breadfruit wood and exhibit a light dry patina conducive to age. They have been painted in a striking design using lime and soot, accentuating the elongated facial form, delicate eyebrows and restrained slit like eyes. Slight damage to the protrusion on top of one mask. [2]
