Lot Description:TASMANIA: A fascinating group of documents including an 1827 document listing salaries in the Police Magistrates Department at Richmond
a May 1834 application by Alfred Luttrell for a licence to operate the William Tell Hotel at Black Brush; an 1835 series of depositions regarding the accidental death of a prisoner while working in a road-building gang; the 1838 findings of the Justices in a matter of assault at Coal River; an 1841 Police Office Richmond report re Thomas Sharpe’s refusal to pay his hired servant, James Iseaby his due wages; the 1846 documents recording the depositions made in the case of a horse, allegedly stolen by James Brasher; an August 1843 document by which the inhabitants of Muddy Plains apply for Police protection; a July 1843 letter from Richmond regarding the need for more police at Brown Mountain, Native Corners, between Jerusalem and Green Ponds and at Kangaroo River; other applications for licences to sell alcohol (the hotels are named) and several other items up to the 1860s. -
