    KING GEORGE VI WRITES TO PRIME MINISTER JOSEPH LYONS - May 13th 1937 autographed letter sheet on BUCKINGHAM PALACE letterhead
    in which the newly crowned King George VI expresses his gratitude to Lyons “...for all your invaluable help in making vital arrangements for my coronation.” The letter concludes with “I hope you will accept this little case as a token of my appreciation. Yours very sincerely, George R.I.” The letter is accompanied by the hand-written envelope in which it was delivered, together with the “little case” referred to: a superb Mappin & Webb sterling silver cigarette case with the king’s royal cypher in gold on the front.     George VI’s coronation at Westminster Abbey took place on 12 May 1937, the date previously intended for his brother Edward’s coronation.
