Lot Description:BLIGH, William. A voyage to the South Sea undertaken by command of His Majesty
for the purpose of conveying the bread-fruit tree to the West indies in His Majesty’s Ship Bounty, including an account of the mutiny on board the said ship and the subsequent voyage of part of the crew in the ship’s boat from Tofua, one of the Friendly Islands, to Timor. London, 1792. Quarto, frontispiece portrait, 4 folding charts, 2 folding plans and a plate of the breadfruit; contemporary calf well rebacked, the spine panelled with gilt anchor ornaments. Some slight foxing. -
Notes:First edition, a fine, large copy of one of the most famous and dramatic of all voyage accounts. The charts include ‘The N. E. coast of New Holland’, plotted during Bligh’s remarkable passage in the longboat, skirting the Great Barrier Reef.
