    1st Australian Aboriginal Cricket Team 1867
    Original photographic montage by P Dawson of Hamilton, Victoria, 19 x 15 cm, mounted over a portrait from Crown Studios, Sydney, with inscription in neat handwriting thus: The Ist Australian Aboriginal Cricket Team/To Tour England Year 1869 and at bottom Geo. Smith Lord Mayor of Sydney/W.R. Hayman Manager& C. Lawrence, Captain. The photograph was created by Dawson in 1867 as a promotion for the first tour of England (May to October 1868, bankrolled by Smith,Hayman and Graham), with the team playing 47 games, losing 14 and drawing 19. The photograph named the players, including star batsman Johnny Mullagh, Bullocky, Sundown, Dick-a-Dick, Johnny Cuzens, King Cole, Red Cap, Twopenny, Charley Dumas, Jimmy Mosquito, Tiger, Peter and Jim Crow. Johnny Mullagh scored 1,698 runs and took 245 wickets. The team also put on exhibitions of boomerang and spear throwing, and these elements form part of the Australian Coat of Arms beneath the photograph. The team arrived back in Sydney in February 1869, played a couple of matches, then split up.
