    Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s Wine Coaster
Wine coaster, silver, engraved with coat of arms of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, attributed to John Parsons and Co, made in Sheffield, England, 1807-1808. Resting on a wooden incised base, plain footing, gadrooned waist to flaring up andbevelled edge. Interior engraved with Governor Macquarie's coat of arms. This is one of a pair, the other part of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney who describe it thus: “This English Regency-style, sterling silver wine coaster bears the coat of arms of Lachlan Macquarie, based on the crest and motto of the arms of his cousin (also Lachlan), the chief of Clan MacQuarrie [sic]. Lachlan Macquarie's tenure as Governor of New South Wales from 1809 to 1821, is regarded as one of the most important gubernatorial administrations in the state's colonial history... Made in Sheffield in 1807 or 1808, the coaster would have accompanied the new governor to Australia as part of his household effects. This object is a tangible link to the personal life and history of one of the most important figures in Australian history (Harrison Jones, June 2010)”. Living history.
