  • Notes:
The luxurious Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was launched at the Paris Salon in 1967, introduced to the market as a replacement for the 330 GT 2+2. There were 2 new innovations for Ferrari with this model: the introduction of power-assisted steering as standard equipment and the adoption of hydraulic self-levelling rear suspension to give a constant ride height regardless of the load. These were featured together with electric windows, radio with electric aerial and optional air-conditioning, making this model Ferrari’s most well-appointed car to date. The 365 GT 2+2 shared the same wheelbase of 2650mm with the 330 GT 2+2, but this car was wider by 90mm (and 69mm in the front and rear track respectively). The sheer size of the car brought about the affectionate nickname ‘Queen Mary’ among English speaking Ferrari enthusiasts. Despite replacing the 330 GT 2 + 2, the 365 GT 2+2 body bears a closer resemblance to the 500 Superfast and the concurrent model 365 GTC. The rear end design is unique to the model and the profile window areas are not dissimilar to the 250GT 2 + 2 of the early 1960s which testifies this as a classic Pininfarina Ferrari. The steel constructed body has an aluminium bonnet and boot lid on steel frames. The radiator grille opening is like the 365 GTC and whereas the 365GTC has the engine bay air vents to the rear bonnet corners, the 2 + 2 vents are at the top face of each side panel. Variances in the bumpers and a full width chrome rear bumper bar with rubber faced over riders and the entire new look tail light assembly with three round horizontally placed lenses in a rectangular chrome plated surround set off this distinguishable car. A minimalist design in period, this simple elegance is virtually devoid of brightwork other than glass surrounds, wiper blades and door handles. The fuel filler is always on the left whether the car is factory left or right hand drive. This model had cast iron disc brakes front and rear and a 5-speed gearbox. The interior trim is full leather and together with the duco colour available in this period were the same as those for the 275 GT Berlinetta and the 365GTB/4. This car presents in Sliver Blue and retains the original interior and colour scheme with updated carpets. US receipts indicate the car was repainted in June 1998. The victorious V12 wet sump 60 degree, 4390cc, type 245 engine, famous for its glorious note, is a single overhead cam per bank engine with a power output of 320bhp at 6600rpm, always fitted with Weber 40DFI/5 carburettors; a Fispa Sup 150 mechanical fuel pump with a Bendix 476087 auxiliary electric pump, making this car one of the competitively sought after “carbi aspirated” legends that have been achieving unprecedented values worldwide. It is the last engine Ferrari designed with a SOHC per bank - the 365 2+2 being the last production model to use this specific powerplant, outliving the 365 GTC by a year. The US market examples, such as this car for auction, had the all-orange front indicator lights. Optional wheels were available and generally Borrani 7.5” x 15” light alloy wheels of the ten-hole design were standard. This car is appointed with 5 Star Ferrari Cromodora 7.5” x 15” wheels. This car was first delivered in the New York area in 1969 and was retained in the ownership of Constantin Papadopoulos until 1984. The Ferrari changed hands to Peter Livanos in 1984 and service receipts indicate the subsequent ownership as Joel Stockman in 1997 and it was then traded to Michael Balak in 1998 and to Alex Levanthal in 2000. Records indicate servicing and maintenance throughout these ownerships in the NY area. This Ferrari was acquired by the current vendor in 2007 and subsequently imported in to New Zealand in 2015 and has been held in the current ownership for 10 years. The car is sold without a WOF but a VTNZ engineer’s report dated 27 October 2015 is available upon request confirming works needed for NZ compliance and registration. It has an odometer reading of 26,237 miles. The duco is Blu Cello with the original upholstery and renewed carpets. The car comes with a handbook, tool kit and jack.
