    1965 JAGUAR MKII 3.4 AUTOMATIC
Chassis No: 168407 BW. Engine No: KJ 6753-8.
  • Notes:
The fabulous Jaguar Mark II was designed as a medium-sized saloon car built from late 1959 to 1967 in Coventry superseding the Mark I. The success of this model was so extraordinary that 83,976 cars were built over the 3 engine capacities: the 3.2 and 3.8 and including 28,666 3.4-litre examples. The styling of the car transformed the Mark I by increasing the cabin glass area by 18 percent. The car was re-engineered with slender front pillars allowing for a wider windscreen and an almost wrap around rear window and the side windows were fully chromed adding greatly to the glamourous styling now synonymous following the success of the glorious D-type. The radiator grille changed and larger side, tail and fog lamps were repositioned. An updated heating system ducted to the rear compartment and improved instrument panel became standard for all Jaguar cars until the XJ series II released in 1973. A 3.4 Litre with automatic transmission like the one on offer was tested by The Motor magazine in 1961 recording a top speed of 119.9 mph (193.0 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 11.9 seconds. Jaguar’s inspiration for the S-Type which was re-introduced in 1999 was derived from the Mark 11 body lines, the overall design proving sufficiently popular over time to become a style icon. The car on offer with Mossgreen-Webb’s was first registered in Christchurch on 30 March 1965 to Mr and Mrs Goodwin of Pigeon Bay. It was subsequently traded through Manchester Car Sales Ltd in 1968 finding new ownership in July 1968 with Mr Ronald Challis who kept it until 1977. The Jaguar then passed to Mr Graeme Milne with 79,600 miles on the clock and remained in his ownership until 1981 when it was bought by Mr. Albert Jones of Takapuna in 1993 with a 92,647 odometer reading. It was then subsequently purchased by its current owner in November 1999 and has remained in her care ever since. The odometer currently reads at 8,271miles. This car presents in white livery with red trim in the 3-speed column shift automatic configuration and bears all the prestigious hallmarks of a well-cared for Jaguar accompanied by a wonderful patina of age. A rare opportunity to acquire a New Zealand-new 3.4 example at auction.
