Notes:Willys (pronounced Willis not Willies) became synonymous with the war effort by the amazing contribution it made with the US Army Jeep in World War II. The station wagon was introduced in 1946 as the first All-Steel consumer vehicle. The Willys wagon competed with the popular “Woodie Wagons” produced prior to the war with pressed-steel side panels and painted in a style mimicking the traditional wood siding. The Willys Station Wagon underwent minimal style changes from its introduction until 1965, albeit soldiering on in the Argentine until 1981, and carried on with the succeeding Jeep Wagoneer and Cherokee. It was marketed under the slogan “Willys makes Sense” and with more than 300,000 units produced the Willys Station Wagon is the precursor to the first SUV. It was comprehensively restored and re-registered in 2004 residing in a prominent collection in Christchurch for some years before being purchased by its current vendor who took it to the North Island. The vehicle is ready to be driven away on its next adventure!
