  • Notes:
Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss immigrant to the USA, began building his first car in 1911. Today Chevrolet, as part of General Motors, has grown into one of the largest manufacturers of motor cars globally. One of Chevrolet’s most famous models is surely the Corvette. The ‘Vette is accorded the status of being America’s first sports car, launched in 1953 in response to the influx of British two-seater sports cars. The original Corvette was designed by the autocratic and temperamental Harley Earl, (famous for his use of pastel colours, the hard-top roof, panoramic windshields, and influenced by contemporary aeroplane design), and were all presented in aspirational Polo White with Sportsman red interior. Despite its modest price at launch the car was not a success until 1955 when it received a small block V8 motor and performance was exponentially enhanced. The Corvette was immortalised by the 1960 television show, ‘Route 66’. The Corvette has remained part of the Chevrolet range since its inception. The C1 ran from 1953 to 1962 before being replaced by the C2 from 1963 to 1967.The third generation which was totally restyled in 1968, the C3 ran until 1982, with the C4 lasting until 1996. The fifth generation C5 Corvette was produced between 1997 and 2004, before the launch of the C6 in 2005 and C7 in 2014. In 2013 the Corvette C6 celebrated 60 years of continuous Corvette production with the launch of the fast and capable 427 Convertible featuring the 505 hp LS7 7 litre aluminium small block V8 engine, lightweight carbon-fibre components and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. A special 60th Anniversary Design Package was made available featuring an Arctic White exterior, Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede microfiber accents; bespoke grey brake calipers with larger cross-drilled rotors, ZR1 rear spoiler, and 60th Anniversary badging on the wheel centre caps, steering wheel and head restraints. The 427 Convertible is capable of a top speed of 190mph (304 km/h) and 0 – 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. This example of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 60th Anniversary 427 Convertible is believed to be the only one in Australia, having been imported and converted to right hand drive by Perfomax International of Queensland, a leader in right hand drive conversions in Asia-Pacific (www.performaxint.com.au). It was then purchased by its current owner and is in as new condition with just 200kms approximately on the odometer. Whilst it has never been registered, it is fully road compliant. Build number 31 of just 300 cars, as well as the 60th Anniversary Design Package, it also has the Optional Graphics Package with full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue and the convertible hood with stitched stripes. Upon its launch the 60th Anniversary 427 Convertible became an instant collectible and these cars are highly difficult to source outside of leading auctions.
