  • Notes:
A NOTE FROM WARWICK BROWN: Nigel Brown uses symbols in his work and like his mentor Colin McCahon, re-uses and mixes these emblems in an on-going process. Here he employs the black dog, the kite flyer, the runner, the Ark (formed by two driveways isolating the house in the centre) and the rocket ship, with access ladder. All these symbols have appeared in other paintings. At this time, the concerns of Brown's work could be described as 'suffocation in suburbia'. As the title demonstrates, the suburbanite needs to get away, break free of routine and seek spiritual renewal.
