  As Rover forged ahead with its innovative designs at a startling pace, the highly respected manufacturer announced its most radical production design in 1964 with the new 2000, a four cylinder 2 litre engine with single overhead camshaft which changed the makers' image over-night. Its futuristic looks utilised the "base unit" unitarian body-shell and featured: four-wheel servo assisted disc brakes; all-synchromesh gearbox and a de Dion rear axle. With Spencer Wilks at the company's helm, this Avant Garde P6 2000 was supplemented by the special TC version in 1966 which was equipped with twin-carburettors; a tachometer; modified cylinder head and oil cooler. The Series 1 features the strip style speedometer and gauges. The TC was initially built for limited US and other export markets only, the 70mph speed limit introduced in the UK probably having something to do with this. But, fortunately for the more performance-oriented "racy" UK buyers, the company relented in time for the London Motor Show in October 1966 when the 2000 TC became available for the UK market. The 2000 TC prototypes competed in the Rally of Great Britain as part of their test programme. This very smart example in its original livery of Burnt Grey with red interior leather trim is a New Zealand delivered car bought new on the 24th February, 1969 by Mr. Thomas Robinson of Wairoa. It changed hands in December 1984 to Mr. Robin Thompson with an odometer reading of 13,406miles. Roy Savage purchased the car from Sumerville Cars Ltd on 31st August 1987 with an odometer reading showing 31,250 miles. The current reading is a mere 59,000 miles approx. The car has a 4-speed manual full synchromesh gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes is complete with its tool kit and spare wheel. Having been beautifully maintained, the service records are available.
