  • Notes:
The choice of Prime Ministers such as Harold Wilson and Margaret Thatcher, a familiar sight in Westminster and a familial favourite of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II the Rover P5B line of cars was this car builder's coupe-de-gras. The last model of the P5 series was launched in September 1967 - now a 3500 Rover V8. The B in its P5B designation came from Buick as Rover did not have the wherewithal to develop an engine of this design and elected to redevelop the aluminium lightweight concept from Buick. With 160 brake horsepower along with improved torque compared to its predecessor, the aluminium engine gave significantly improved performance and fuel economy. Utilising a Borg Warner Type-35 automatic transmission and "Hydro steer" variable ratio power steering, this remarkable vehicle had moved away from the traditional chassis, frame and body construction to a monocoque structure. Rover's reputation was built on refinement and silence, so any associated problems with noise had to be overcome and an advanced fully-integrated body-chassis monocoque was developed. Bashford and newly recruited design genius David Bache were totally committed to this new monocoque body and the P5B crystallised into one of the most elegant Rovers of all time, both inside and out. The P5B was built in four door coupe (identified by the lower roof line) and saloon bodies until the end of production in 1973, when 9099 coupés and 11,501 saloons had been built. This beautiful coupe in its original stately colour combination of maroon with a grey roof has well-maintained features including its leather interior seats in beige with matching carpets. No prior ownership history is available at the time of print and the Certificate of Registration is being sought after. A superb example and one of the jewels in the Savage collection, this P5B offers an opportunity for the discerning Rover collector to acquire a car that has been very well maintained over the years that is evident in its presentation. This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF
