    1957 ROVER 90 saloon
Chassis no: 611700517; Engine no: 610702492
  • Notes:
The P4 Rover 90 was launched on 24 September, 1953 at the Paris Motor Show with a new more powerful 2.6 litres (160 cu in) straight six-cylinder engine by comparison with the smaller capacity4-cylinder 60 and 75 models. From 1956, styling enhancements were introduced to the interior trim which continued on subsequent P4 models. Bodywork modifications took place and the recesses in the 'B' pillars that previously housed the trafficators in pre-1955 models were removed while the front mudguards were reshaped with the side lamps and flashing indicators placed in different positions. The engine's compression ratio was increased from 6.73:1 to 7.5:1 with additional mechanical improvements such as Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive and sensitive power brakes. Testing the Rover 90 in 1954, The Motor magazine recorded a top speed of 90.0 mph (144.8 km/h) with acceleration from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 18.9 seconds This example was first registered in New Zealand on 24th April 1957 to Mr. Cyril Sanders. It remained in his ownership until 1980 when it was purchased by Roger Lloyd of Wellington. Roy Savage bought this car in April 1985 with an odometer recording of 55,200 miles. With its original cream livery and green interior comprising a mix of vinyl and carpet trim to the doors and floor, the bench seat is believed to be a modern update. As original, the car has its 4-speed manual transmission and a single SU carburettor. This Rover 90 features the interior appointments that were Rovers hall-mark of the times being the veneer dash and Jaeger instruments. The P4 range of cars incorporate rear-hinged "suicide" doors and make this P4 an indomitable classic that has been held in the Savage Collection for 31 years and provides an opportunity to acquire an appealing entry level Rover. This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF
