  • Notes:
    The makara is an ancient symbol formed of a number of animals, with the lower jaw of a crocodile, the trunk of an elephant, the upper tusk and ears of a wild boar, the wide staring eyes of a monkey and the scales and gills of a fish. It was adopted into early Buddhism and is often found in the cornices of temples, standing guard, as the Temple Protector against storms
