• Notes:
  Grahame had learnt the art of drawing by HV Miller. Sketches were often completed in the field but in the case of De Profundis and the drawing, they are a study of a shoe which had been exposed to the weather and was breaking down. If Grahame liked a subject after his initial drawing, he would often complete a limited edition steel point etching and if the image still appealed then a major egg tempera painting would follow. An egg tempera painting was produced so this subject received the full Grahame Sydney treatment.
