  The Ferrari California nomenclature first appeared in 1957 on the 250 GT California designed by Scaglietti and so named to appeal to the American market place at the time. Since then the California name had only appeared on Maranello's finest limited production vehicles such as the 365 California of 1966 of which just 14 were built. That was until the launch of the front mounted V8 Ferrari California with direct injection in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. A true Ferrari with a top speed of over 190 mph, the Pininfarina designed California was created, like the original California, to take the Italian marque to a new modern audience. With styling cues from its classic predecessor it is a thoroughly up to date sports car with a neat two-piece retractable hard-top providing the benefits and advantages both of a coupé and open top driving combined in 2+2 configuration.
