Notes:First edition: the memoirs of the world-renowned Australian coloratura soprano of great distinction and popularity, Helen Mitchell, who became famous under her stage name, Nellie Melba. Her memoirs were ghost-written by her friend, British author Beverly Nichols. This copy was inscribed by Melba to “Lorna and Bill” (Lorna and William Cowell). Loosely inserted are three manuscript notes from Melba, two on printed Combe Cottage letterhead, the other on printed Government House, Adelaide, letterhead; an inscribed and signed greeting card; and Melba’s monogrammed handkerchief.
