  • Lot Description:
Mundy, Godfrey Charles. Our Antipodes: or, Residence and Rambles in the Australasian Colonies
Three volumes, octavo, frontispiece to each volume and 12 other very fine tinted lithographed plates from sketches by the author and his wife, entirely uncut in the original blind-stamped dark blue cloth, gilt vignette on front boards. London, Richard Bentley, 1852. A notable work of Australian travel literature and one of the first eye-witness accounts of the gold fields. Mundy’s very early account of the gold discovery and of a trip to Ophir in July 1851 concludes the third volume: In addition, three of his fine lithographs show scenes at the diggings drawn within two months of the first rush, making this one of the earliest artistic records of the gold fields. This is the second, “revised” edition. Abbey, 562; Bagnall, 3671; Ferguson, 12957.
