Lot Description:Labillardière, Jacques Julien Houton de. Sertum Austro-Caledonicum… Pars Prior
One part (of two) folio, with 40 engraved plates, entirely uncut, bound with the plain front wrapper in recent half green leather. Paris, Dominique Huzard, 1824. -
Notes:Extremely scarce scientific account of the flora of New Caledonia, illustrated by a fine series of botanical engravings by the botanical artist Turpin, a student of Pierre Joseph Redouté, who had also worked on Labillardière’s monumental Novae Hollandiae Plantarum Specimen published by Huzard in 1804. The Sertum Austro-Caledonicum is based on Labillardière’s specimens and observations made during the D’Entrecasteaux expedition in search of La Pérouse, 1791 – 1795. Nissen, 1117.
