  • Lot Description:
A Kashan rug with silk highlights, Iran, mid-20th century
    224 x 140 cm
  • Notes:
This classic Kashan rug possesses all the characteristics that have contributed to the well-deserved reputation for weaving excellence of this oasis city situated half way between Tehran and Isfahan in central Iran. Set against a lustrous midnight blue field, its directional design of flowering shrubs and realistically-drawn floral sprays is drawn in the manner of illustrated Persian poetry books. Its regular weave and relatively high knot count contribute to the clarity of the field design and well-spaced main border. The use of a clear light-blue, yellow and ivory contribute to the elegance of the traditional colour palette.
