    Unusual George III Britannia Silver Cream Jug
    markers mark obscured, Britannia Standard, London, 1781, of bulbous form, on shallow pedestal foot, the body embossed with panels of flowers separated by flutes, vacant scrolled cartouche to the front, punch bead border and double scroll lopped handle, total weight 100gm, h 12 cm
  • Notes:
    The Britannia Standard of 958 per 1000 parts silver, being higher than sterling 925, was compulsory from 1697-1720, thereafter it was optional but rarely used on anything but more substantial items. It is very unusual to find this mark on an item of domestic silver in the late 18th Century.
