  (i) British War Medal 1914-18 (2/2637 Bdr A U N Hayes, NZEF). (ii) Victory Medal 1919 ( 2/2637 Bdr A U N Hayes, NZEF). (iii) War Medal 1939-45. (iv) New Zealand War Service Medal 1939-45. (v) New Zealand Territorial Service Medal, King George V (2/2637 Bomb. A U N Hayes, NZEF (1918). Granted 6 July 1918. (vi) New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal (A U N Hayes, late NZEF). Roll confirms a late issue granted 15 March 1943. With record of service.

  Acquired about 1975.
• Notes:
  Hayes was born 7 June 1892; enrolled in Wellington Division NZ Garrison Artillery 9 January 1907; attested for 1NZEF 7 September 1915 and served in France; discharged 7 June 1919. NZ Territorial Force 11 November 1938 - 10 August 1940 when he enlisted in RNZAF (Leading Aircraftman) and served in NZ until discharged on 7 July 1944. He died at Wellington on 23 June 1965.
