    Pair to Private Michael Lees, 70th Foot.
    (i) Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-58, no claps (3303 Pte M Lees, 70th Foot). (ii) New Zealand Medal, undated reverse (3303 Pte M Lees, 70th Foot). Both medals impressed naming. With research notes.

    Purchased from Charles Lusted, English dealer.
  • Notes:
    Lees was born at St Eircoat and was engaged in woollen manufacturing. He enlisted on 6 October 1852 and arrived in New Zealand on the ship Daniel Rankin in 1861. He was discharged at New Plymouth on 9 October 1864 on completion of his engagement. In New Zealand the regiment was under the commander of Lieutenant-Colonels Trevor Chute and Thomas Edmonds Maloch, CB.
