Lot Description:The book ‘Kanjiro Kawai’
published by the Ohara Museum of Art, c.1967, the section ‘His Character & His Work’ in English by Soetsu Yanagi, otherwise in Japanese. Red toned hand-made type paper cover to the hard boards, gilt Japanese calligraphy. -
Provenance:Ex. Collection of Len Castle, signed and dated by Len, 1968, the outer original packing slip also signed with Len’s address. 535 Sth Titirangi Rd, Auckland, 8. 340 x 265. It was published by the Ohara Museum in Kurashiki 1967 as a tribute to Kawai Kanjiro, who passed away in 1966. This particular Museum was the first in Japan to promote western art. Len Castle purchased this book in Japan because of his association with Kawai Kanjiros Kiln in Kyoto.
