Lot Description:SCARCE BRITISH NAVY ADMIRAL'S PIPE BACK SWORD by SALTER
vg 31½" pipe back blade retaining 70% orig polish, quill point showing several sml dark spots, etched & decorated with ROYAL CYPHER, FOULED ANCHOR & WARRANTED in a banner; ricasso marked SALTER NO.73 STRAND LONDON, obverse side SALTER SWORD CUTLER TO THE DUKE OF SUFSEX, British Coat of Arms & WARRANTED; sharp & clear etching; 85% orig gilt finish ½ basket guard, inset with ROYAL CYPHER & FOULED ANCHOR, inner guard & deeply chiselled Lion's head pommel; white fish skin grips bound with copper twist wire; complete with ornate gilt, brass mounted blk leather scabbard; locket is marked SALTER SWORD CUTLER TO H.R.H. THE DUKE OF SUSSEX CORNER OF THE ADELPHI 73 STRAND LONDON. A good, early Naval sword. C.1800. -
