Lot Description:Japanese Woodblock Print Triptych, c.1847
by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786-1864), Sumo Bout, Momotaro Wrestles Kintaro, depicting Momotaro and Kintaro sumo wrestling under the watchful eyes of two animal referees. At the right, Momotaro or 'Little Peachling' grips the arm of his opponent and wears a Mawashi patterned with peaches. On the left, Kintaro, who was known for his strength, pushes Momotaro by the shoulder, dressed in a boldly checked Mawashi. At left, a black bear in a red robe holds a folding fan whilst at the right, a bird-headed referee waves his fan, each panel 37cm x 25.5cm, mount 56cm x 96cm -
