Lot Description:1962 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 Saloon - Australian delivered via Brysons Motors (Saleroom Notice)
Based on the four-door mid-sized Jaguar saloon that came to retrospectively be called the Mk1, Jaguar's Mark 2 was unveiled in October 1959 and was an immediate hit. Today, it is one of the stalwarts of the classic car hobby. The Jaguar Mk2 addressed many of the shortcomings of the earlier model, particularly its high-speed handling, which was overcome by widening the rear track. The Mark 2 also featured slimmer pillars and larger glass area, so that the luxurious cabin was much lighter, plus refinements like a redesigned instrument panel with a much-improved layout. Rear track changes aside, mechanical refinements included Dunlop four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment and the new model was available with three different engine capacities right from the outset: the 2.4, 3.4 and a new 3.8 variant of the classic Jaguar straight six. Popular with the law makers, and those on the wrong side of it, the Jaguar Mk 2 also enjoyed a successful competition career, particularly in touring car races in England and Australia, indeed examples can still be found competing in historic events around the world today. The Mark 2 is an eminently usable classic saloon today, enjoying excellent support from many clubs and specialists around Australia. With almost 90,000 built in 10 years of production, the Mark 2 is still regarded by many Jaguar enthusiasts as perhaps the finest saloon ever to wear the leaping cat. Built in December 1962 and Australian-delivered by Bryson’s just a month later, this Jaguar Mark 2 3.8 automatic has been little used in recent years by its elderly owner. According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust verification certificate which accompanies the car, it left the factory in finished Mist Grey with a Red leather interior. However, around 30 years ago it underwent a full restoration and refinished in Opalescent Silver Blue with grey cloth facing interior inserts. It sits on the correct steel wheels with hubcaps, rather than wire wires often retrospectively fitted. Today, this Mark 2 is complete and is affordable classic motoring. The Jaguar was on full registration until March 2021 but will now need a service and recommissioning, with attention paid to the steering and brakes. The aftermarket choke needs adjusting/rebuilding. The certificate also confirms the engine block is original and matching 'LC5117-8', with the head being replaced being numbered 'LA 8854-8'. Our ’62 Jaguar Mark 2 automatic also comes with a reprint of the Mark 2 Service manual and a Spare Parts catalogue (issued March 1972). -
Notes:The 1962 Jaguar Mark 2 saloon is being sold unregistered.
