Lot Description:1965 Ford Mustang 289 V8 Coupe Auto RHD
VIN: 5R07C193434; Engine Number: L2310G -
Notes:Launched midway through 1964, Fords new sports coupe, the Mustang proved to be a massive hit and one of the most successful models in US automotive history. Automotive visionary Lee Iacocca gained legendary status from the development through to introduction of the Mustang, taking inspiration from the mid-engine Mustang 1 concept car. The car was so popular it created its own market segment with rival manufactures quick to develop their own “Pony Cars” to match the Ford success, notably Chevrolet with their Camaro and Dodge with their Challenger. The public couldn’t get enough of the affordable, sporty, stylish and daily drivable 2 door cars. These early Mustangs shared many components with the Falcon and offered buyers a huge array of options to choose from, these included performance specs, style and designs and the result was a car that was appealing to a wide variety of owners with their own needs. This appeal was an important point that was underpinned in the brief when designing the car. There were some small mechanical changes from the early cars (known as 1964 ½) compared to the later 1965 models, namely an electrical upgrade with an alternator replacing a generator. A new fastback body option was introduced, and the range of engine choices was expanded from the inline 6cyl to the high spec 289ci V8. Popular options included Automatic transmission and disc front brakes, as well as handling packages that transformed the cruiser into a track able machine. This Mustang offered for sale has been long held and loved by the late vendor. Using his expertise, the car has been tastefully modified to be a pure drivers car, offering both performance and comfort whilst retaining its Mustang heritage. The car was an early conversion to RHD and still bears the old registration label from the state of Victoria from 1981. Sighted often at Mustang club events the car presents beautifully in Red on black, with modern bucket seats and centre console, upgraded slotted front disc brakes. Engine upgrades include edelbrock performance heads and manifold. The body and paint are straight without any major blemishes, the brightwork retains it’s shine. With a slightly aggressive stance this mustang sits on American Racing Torq Thrust D wheels. With a recent full service by Marque specialist, costing approx. $2,400 this Mustang offers a great useable iconic classic car with some modern conveniences at an affordable price. Car is presently registered in Victoria but will be sold unregistered Enquiries for this vehicle, please call Cameron Sabine 0421 511 006
