Kinrande (literally "gold brocade") is a Japanese porcelain style where gold is applied on the surface and there are a number of variations. It originated from China during the Jiajing (1521-1566) and Wanli (1573-1620) periods of the Ming dynasty. The mark Changming Fugui is a popular ceramic mark during the 16th century, and most associated with Jiajing period. It appears on various blue-and-white wares, as well as Kinrade-style pieces. For similarly decorated stem-bowl and bowls, see Christie's, Important Chinese Art from the Manno Art Museum, Hong Kong, 28 Oct 2002, lot 547; The Museum of East Asian Art, Bath, online collection record number BATEA:153; The British Museum, online collection Museum number PDF.535.The British Museum example bears an almost identical mark, with slight variation in the character of 'ming'. Many 'changming fugui' marks found on Ming-dynasty examples are of the same variation as the British Museum bowl.
