Lot Description:Two Fine Old Ancestor Figures, Coastal Sepik Area, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, Mid-20th Century
both of these Ancestor Figures are wearing an elaborate headdress that was worn in the area by initiated men wear their hair was pulled up through a decorated conical rattan ornament often decorated with dogs' teeth. The figure on the left has an interesting groin area where a crocodile head has replaced his genitals. The figure on the right is incised with elaborate designs highlighted with lime & has some fibre attachments.
