    A finely carved Inuit Bowl in the form of a Seal, Nunivak Island (48 km) offshore from the delta of the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers in the US state of Alaska (old label on the back).

  • Notes:
    The Superbly Carved Japanese Plate in the form a Sea Bream Fish is carved from hardwood by a master carver who gave the fish every tiny scale and detail. Sea Bream known as Madai in Japan is associated with the deity Ebisu, in Japanese mythology, one of the Shichi-fuku-jin ('Seven Gods of Luck'), he is the patron of fishermen and tradesmen. He is depicted as a fat, bearded, smiling fisherman often carrying a rod in one hand and Bream Fish under his arm. Madai It is prized for its flavour and for being the "celebration" fish bringing good fortune and served at special occasions dating back thousands of years.
