• Notes:
  Paul Hartigan’s The Royal found it’s origins in the ongoing series of images of decaying commercial signage the artist made using a SX70 Polaroid Camera throughout the 70s and 80s. At first glance appearing to be a photorealist painting, The Royal is in fact based on a daylight photograph taken in 1985 of neon lettering being dismantled from the Royal International Hotel in Auckland, about to be taken away on a truck and destroyed.
