Lot Description:An Old Fighting Shield, Okapa Region, Eastern Highlands, Papua New Guinea
the shield is covered in fine engraved motifs, and over the top is painted the giant creator snake, of mythological times. Okapa shields are thick, carved from a semi-hard wood and always have a pandanus leaf top edge.
