    Important Colonial Australian Silver Cricket Trophy
    impressed H.Young & Co., Sterling Silver, of neoclassical form, adorned with a gilded batsman and wickets for finial, above a slender tapering body with angled handles, the lower base accented with gilded bats, stumps and balls, the body engraved 'THE MELBOURNE SPORTS DEPOT. JUNIOR CRICKET CLUB TROPHY, SEASON 1884 & 5. WON BY THE DUDGEON & ARNELL C.C., PRESENTED BY THE MEMBERS TO J. AITKEN ESQ PRESIDENT, 29TH MAY 1885,' surrounded by engraved foliage, on stand, height 51cm and 57cm (including stand)

    This trophy was the subject of an article by Tony Lewis in the April 2020 edition of the Silver Society of Australia Newsletter (p.13-14): 'The first echelon of (suburban) junior teams competed for trophies donated by the Melbourne Sports Depot (MSD), Melbourne's premier sporting goods store. Founded by Frederick Dodge in about 1880 in Elizabeth Street, the firm became a sporting icon.' 'Some idea of the importance of these competitions may be gained by considering the size and quality.
