Notes:In 1775 Nawab Asaf al-Daula moved the capital of Avadh from Faizabad back to Lucknow and during his reign until 1797 transformed the city with many new splendid buildings. His new palace can be seen in the distance in this aquatint, with the old palace of his predecessors on the left. The Mosque with its tall minarets had been built in the late 17th century by the emperor Aurangzeb.
